Not a good day at Sears Point
I don't think I want to be racing with this in my mirror!

Ah, come on Adam. I lived in California for more than a decade, and didn't let a natural disaster stop me from having fun. Heck, most Californians don't ever stop what they are doing for a fire. Heck I'd get out there.

After reading all the news...no I wouldn't. It's really, really bad. I have friends in that area. The fires in Santa Rosa look awful. Wow, they said it was so fast moving people were running out their homes as it was rolling across vineyards, etc. Crazy.

All I can think of is comparing a natural disaster to one individual killing 59 and wounding another 500 plus. We're all potential targets and we do nothing about it.

August thru October.
The West Coast burns and the South & East Coasts flood from Hurricanes. |
This was just on the news, one less Porsche, which is sad.

Terrible, the loss of homes and property...
Is that another Porsche behind, to the left of the burnt out car? |

62 fires burning in CA right now. 10 dead, 1,500 structures burned. "Perfect storm" of weather conditions.

Sadly my winery isn't too far away and I am stressing through another night tonight. Tons of friends lost their homes. Tons of friends lost their winery's and vineyards. The damage is massive.
|
That shiny puddle behind the car must be the melted block.

Sad situation. I had been staying in Sebastopol and touring the entire area this past week. We awoke early yesterday morning and shortly after the evacuation sirens started to go off. Lines at the gas stations were already 50 cars deep at 630am, intersections were chaotic. Smoke filled the valleys and the red glow of the fires lit the sky, the sun looked more like the moon. It took almost 4hrs to get to San Francisco for the 68mile distance by taking all backroads and trying to get around the chaos. My friend lost his home but his family is at least safe. The area is so beautiful and another completely beautiful day had just ended the night before. It will take me a while for me to see a sunrise or sunset now and not envision again that surreal morning sky on Monday.

I just realised when looking at the photo again of the burned out early 911 that the car was not parked outside. It was parked in the garage, and the entire house and garage burned to the ground around it!!! Very sad.

Thats just awful!

It's still standing. It's off 8th Street near Napa Road. Just a short mile down the block looks like something out of a Vietnam movie when a camp was hit with napalm. Cars are toasted like bread. Trees are torched like a match stick. The smoke doesn't allow one to see farther than a few hundred feet and burns the eyes and throat. It's insane how fast life changes and risk comes on.
|
The owner of this 914 said he had five lug FUCHS on there, they just evaporated.

I'm so sorry for all those affected.

So awful. I live in San Francisco and have friends in wine country. This is incredibly tragic and there's no end in sight. 9000 firefighters and 121 planes can't contain it. My heart goes out to all those in Napa and Sonoma County struggling to come to grips with the incredible loss and continuing tragedy. And to those firefighters that are risking everything to help, God bless you!
