Distributor wire repair

I am not having a issue, but I might in the future.
How would you repair this precarious wire running to the distributor?

That wire is just a shield wire, no voltage should be going thru it .... It is also not factory

Then what is it there for? If that is not a factory connection what is the male connectors on the side of the distributor?

You will have to trace it in order to find out whether it's a ground wire or a shield.

Shields are used to protect a wire or group of wires from electromagnetic interference(EMI) generated by the secondary side of the distributor. Secondary being plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, coil.

Replace it or give it some good quality heat resistantl tape for elctricsl use - the wire itself seems undamaged.

The cover over the wire is rather stiff, like plastic. I am not sure how the covering over the wire could be called a shield. I look at it as some sort of wire covering, almost like shrink wrap but its not.

I've looked at a bunch of distrib. on the internet and notice some dist. don't have the connection on the side like mine but do have a cover over this area.

You have some feedback - maybe take this to the tech section.

No Porsche distributor had a connection there. and the access cover is on all 169 and 184 distributors...early are plastic and lates have a metal cover.

That wire is grounded to the case of the distributor. It is the shield wire (sheath)for the wire taking the points signal to the CDI.
You could leave it bare or put some heat shrink over it.

You should have a mod move this to the tech forum.

Will go the heat shrink route.
