76
What's a 76 fetch these days?
Batting around an idea for a new toy and need 76 or earlier. These seem like the best value - since it will likely not stay stock - or am I mistaken? |

For what midyears are going for, I really do not consider them the best value at all. I still think a SC is the best value. Galvanizing (done right), better engine, etc. I'm all for a midyear as I have a '75S, but I would not consider a clean '75S a better value than a SC unless you were stuck on a midyear. Depends on also if you already have a '76 lined up...
In addition to what I just said, there are so very few '76s available, like maybe a handful in the entire world on any given day, so I would say you are limiting yourself. |

A 73 is rather more $ than I want to spend to then have to add things. I saw a 76 with a 3.2 swap online for around 40k, which is what started me thinking. |

76 is marginally less valuable than 74-75 because of CA and similar states. It also has all kinds of smog crap that helped the 2.7 overheat and fail early in life. Many, in smog free states, will have 3.0 or 3.2 swaps. It’s what people did to fix them when they were sub $10k cars. 76 had sone great colors.

Galvanized narrow tub, seems like a good start point for a build. saw a couple of rollers on the Samba in the mid teens.

My '76 has never had the "thermal reactors" on it...that's for California cars only?

As I think I said, this was sparked by seeing a superficially nice 76 with a 3.2 swap and a good interior in the 40s. Not really sure how that is as a standalone value prop, but compared to a nice 73 it seems cheap... Of course for about $25k I could stick a crate LS3/4L65 into a 76 Jag XKS, including the car cost, so value prop is relative here. |

Whats the reason behind wanting a 76? No flares? In the 40s you could grab a decent 3.2 g50 Carrera...

Not much less than a SC anymore, yes they might be the best value of all the air cooled 911's but the margins are getting less every day.

The only cheaper middie is a 77. 76 and 77 with both generally be cheaper than an SC. Good sorted 74 & 75 are often equal or even more than an SC. A 76 hot rod should be a $25-30k car.
