what makes it an "outlaw"?
I want outlaw status for my 75s. I'm not prepared to sign my correspondence "cheeRS" or anything like that moving forward. but what made a car an outlaw even before the bearded one made it more mainstream? it's a 356 thing as I recall?
the domino is a bit ruff (pun intended), but well enough off to possible be an "outlaw" with the right guidance here. took off my rockers, rolled the fenders, and as some are aware have refreshed an early 3.oL topped with 40mm webers and some other spice. if I'm smog exempt so I can't be an outlaw there??? RS interior, factory sunroof & power window delete outlaw candidate. or is it? I wanna be an outlaw, what makes one?

^yup. I hold firm its not an outlaw if its not a 356. Magnus is the Urban Outlaw, he doesn't build them. Before Magnus came along everyone was vomitting out R-gruppe reps. Think about that for a minute. Guys have always built 911 hot rods. R-Gruppe is a club. Its also not a genre. They borrowed from R, ST and RS cues mostly. How was that different? A rep is a rep.
What's wrong with Domino? She has a name. She doesn't need a genre. Shes her own car.

911s were considered hot rods..... 356s were outlaws.
IMO Hotrods were a modification of a 911 which emphasized making the car perform better. Lightening, suspension, brakes, wheels and motor modification highlighted most of the hotrods I know. |

...to me an outlaw is anyone who drives a midyear 911...and the best outlaw is a midyear 911 since they were orphaned and looked down upon for so long. So you have two things going for you which is nice...

An "outlaw' was a 356 modified and not excepted amongst the Porsche mainstream, hence the term "outlaw". Funny thing is now 356 "outlaws" are mainstream and have a mainstream following and are a large mainstream group.
It is so popular there are now 911"outlaws'" and clubs like the 'RGroupe' to support them. So by the very fact the have a following and a large group base they are no longer "outlaws". So to build an outlaw today you need to do something unacceptable to the 'Porscefile' for example, an unacceptable paint jobs, unacceptable power plants (chevy V-8) These are today's outlaws, if you piss off the general Porsche public and do your own thing you have a true "outlaw" . Otherwise you are chasing style and would never be a true 'outlaw' like a hipster can never really be truly 'hip'. Basically do not worry what others label your car and think of it and do your own thing to it for your entertainment , then you then have an 'outlaw' car. Magnus is a good example of a true outlaw builder, by the very fact he pisses off so many Porsche people.
I like him. |

You need to get out more. Resale red is all the rage with the hipster kids buying analog 911s.

Magnus builds cars he likes and drives them and enjoys them and is not making to many concessions to please others, He really does not seem to worried about making his cars like something else's, He is his owns style, that is "outlaw" to me.

here is my stock 68S, except for the paint Seems to cause a lot of emotion with the Porsche guys at the local PCA car shows. I quit going to not cause high blood pressure for them. Kind of Outlaw. ![]() |

Wow ficke, I actually really dig that paint job. Good for you - reminds me of Janice Joplins' 356. I like that car too.

Thanks, I dig it too.
Most non-Porsche people like it and Porsche guys who own Porsches for fun like it, but there is this serious Porsche people who feel there are 'rules' and I violated them. |

Another +1 on Ficke's 68 paint. Really cool. Reminds me of mandelbrot set / chaos theory stuff.
