Certainly depends on what it is now: year, matching, etc. To convert it into a coupe would entail a full restoration, at which point it will likely be worth less than the restored targa. Is it so undesirable as a targa?

I'm no fan of the Targa so my knee-jerk reaction is the same as Len and Bill's.
However, there are some Targas that kind of work for me: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I bought the Targa ROW for the motor trans and a few things I needed to complete my other project, I got a great deal on it. I was going to keep it and do a back date but that changed do to another project. now I’m getting ready to paint it in the next two weeks and sell it at Hershey as a rolller. I Just wanted to see what would be more desirable. I already have an 87 coupe and made my black 1987 cab a coupe, and almost done with my 1980 911

My personal preference is Anything that's not a Targa.

I hate targas too, but if it was born as a targa, keep it!
Don´t make a Cab or a Coupe out of it Just sell the car an by the coupe that you want, IMHO that is the safest way to not loose money on the end Good luck |

You have to admit this targa is pretty sharp but, I’m a coupe guy myself. Its like blondes vs brunettes. At my age I can’t be picky. I’ll take what I can get.

I have a coupe, but my neighbor has a targa and I really like it.
Sunshine on your face, wind in your hair and a clearer experience of the flat six soundtrack. Okay, some say it's not as sporting as a coupe, but let's face it, a Tesla X or similar is going to embarrass most classic 911s anyway. Unless you are a hardcore racer, I think it just comes down to looks. They can be made to look pretty stylish too (like the blue one above and some of these)... |

I'm always intrigued by people who say they "hate" a Targa. Why so much (negative) passion? In '86 I was looking for a used Guards Red coupe with tan interior -had to be that, nothing else. While inquiring at a dealership (that had no such car), I saw a used targa on the showroom, top off. Looked out at the hot, humid July day, and went for it. 32 years later, never a minute of regret.

Targas look great especially in SC form.
The OP could learn a lot with this project, could make 185K after dumping 200K into it... Maybe seek out a coupe.

Don't build anything. Sell it as a Targa at Hershey and be done with it.
Someone will embrace it as a Targa. You can find another car or roller that's a coupe. Me, I would rather have a Targa than anything else - for sentimental reasons (first 911 I got a ride in, first 911 I ever drove, etc) and most importantly I have a Targa. Sell it and don't waste your time converting it when you can find another car. |

Sell the targa and buy a coupe. Your never going to be happy with it
Personally, I have had a coupe and a targa. Sure the coupe looks better, but I found that I drive the targa twice as much. The sun and sound of the motor. |
