I think the seller missed out here, for a car that needs love. Expensive love! That was a very fair offer.

Ridiculous. That was all the money on that car, and then some. So molested and neglected and so expensive to fix it.

Seems like the seller said the bidders were close to reserve. So I'm guessing $140-145k. The car will need some serious love and money. Could be another $75-100K to get it perfect. So in the end, one will be close to $250k by the time all is said and done. Not cheap money but I guess the Peter Gregg ownership may be worth it to someone.

Car has been for sale for quite while- can't recall asking price but it was very high. The turbo market has cooled way down.

The ice age started 2015.

Great cars will still sell for all the money.

In time provenance like this will make this car truly special, that time is not yet. When people are still comparing it to other 930's and worrying about the cost of restoration, the time is not yet. But a car like this will have it's time, it has great provenance and a time will come with someone with a lot of money doesn't just want a 930, they want one with history. I think it will take a few more years before stuff related to Brumos really becomes special, it's still too new to everyone's memory as an actual dealership, not a place of myth's, stories, and legends. That day will come.

Steve McQueen's 930 sold very well, an ex-Al Holbert 930 sold for very strong $$ when market was strong. This car was available when market was strong but asking price was just too high. Two years ago market was on fire for 3.0 turbo's, even crappy ones, market will come back as they are very special cars, low volume by Porsche standards and were the homologation vehicles for the killer 934/935 race cars

Peter Gregg was not a universally liked person. That's part of the problem. Vintage Race Car did a write up on him a few years ago.

It's not his race car, so why any extra value? I don't get the added value because someone famous owned it. I do get the value if the particular car won something substantial with a particular driver.
It would be worth 4X it's value if Seinfeld owned it. And he never won squat. Figure that one...

This. Fascination/obsession with celebrity is something I don’t understand. $17M for Paul Newman’s watch for example (he likely would’ve insisted that money went to charity). WTH is next—10 grand for Beyoncé’s used kleenex?

I agree. How many cars did Gregg own during his racing years? Is every one worth extra. The seller needs to listen to the market and come to grips with the fact that the provenance he is banking on isn't worth bank to anyone.

That is a lot of money for a car that needs one of everything.

I believe the market has spoken on this one. No one cares about Peter Gregg. You can't compare this 930 to the sale of McQueen's 930. Steve McQueen, yes. Gregg, you've kind of got to be kidding.

Agreed wholeheartily. I believe the bid to $137k was mostly fueled by it’s history and provenance. In this slower market, ample supply of cars and in its current condition, $140k is most ambitious. When a complete 3.0 litre 930 can be bought at a comparable price, I believe the above sentiments have been (in part) taken into consideration.

Exactly. It's not an actual Brumos car. It's Peter's car. Big whoop.
