Have you ever found your own 911 for sale on Craigslist?

I just did.

https://winchester.craigslist.org/cto/d/baltic-blue-metallic-89/6410410231.html

I didn't realize I was selling it, let alone from 150 miles from my home, and for roughly half of its market value.

Its amazing what a cesspool Craigslist has become - did you contact anyone about it?

I posted this thread and now will proceed with emailing the seller excitedly, letting him know he has the exact 911 I've been looking for all along while making an outlandish offer to please hold the car until next week. Then I will struggle with the technical difficulties of sending someone money via his/her preferred method of exchange.

I have been looking at tractors and I see a 20k tractor on there for $2500. I figure they have stolen someone elses pic so it looks like it is from someone private. but then you always get
"I am in the military and it is stored. I can ship it to you"

I always reply with I haul cars for a living and I can pick it up and pay in person. gets pretty quiet after that.

yea, CL is really bad. I guess they figure there are not as many controls as ebay.

et cetera 12-18-2017 08:27 AM

I've seen this happening rather frequently. Most of them listed $10-15k lower than market value.

It sucks because I've had great success buying and selling cars on CL over the years.

I regularly check my local CL's cars section and it seems like at least 40% of all ads are blatant scams.

I swear there are at least two mid-2000s Tacoma 4x4s for $1500 on each page at any given time.

JackkTheMackk 12-18-2017 09:05 AM

Earlier this year my room mate put my SC on CL for $12k as a prank... Within an hour I had so many calls and texts.

Bob Ashlock 12-18-2017 09:08 AM

This is a common occurrence on CL nowadays. The first giveaway is when you email the 'seller' and start asking simple questions about ownership, registration, smog certificate, etc. that they refuse to respond to. I expect their hope is you will simply ask them if the car is still for sale and they will try to get you to forward a deposit right away to "hold" the car because they have had many inquiries. Such total B.S. Takes all the fun out of the hunt.

Do you ship to europe?

:D

Did you check your garage to see if it was still there?

2ndTARGA 12-18-2017 10:37 AM

This is happening more and more.

BTW - here's where they apparently lifted the photos and text - from when it was for sale in 2012. Perhaps when you purchased it?

EDIT: Definitely from when you purchased it - judging by the last post in that thread :)

CL scam

Look at the first pictures of this really nice '84 Carrera. The "seller" took the photos off of his computer screen. I was thinking of offering him 40K

Oh yes, I already found the old ad to see if he used the exact same verbiage and he did.

Notice the seller says they bought the car in 2008 but then later on say they've only owned it for 4 years.

Mike80911 12-18-2017 03:51 PM

I'll take it. Is the price negotiable?

Have you ever found your own 911 for sale on Craigslist?

They are trying to scam on everything. I called on an enclosed car trailer that was only about $3k low on a $12k trailer. First response was the selling because my husband passed away reason. I did a quick image search and found the trailer at a dealer in Kansas.
I responded with just the link to the for sale webpage.

I too found my 911 on Craigslist recently in a scam ad. I've 'flagged' it over 200 times, and used the CL process 3 times to let them know it's a scam. No effect, it's still running unabated.

Jay993 12-18-2017 05:55 PM

MrBonus, do you have a recent ppi of your car? Might help my decision to buy it. Also will you deliver it? Aye! Idiots! Super annoying
