E-bay woooo!There goes a set of Webers

Wow! So we sold a set of 911Webers on evil-bay. They were going to Europe. They get shipped to an e-bay center back east to then be shipped over the pond. 2 weeks later we get an e-mail that the shipment can't be sent. ?? Bad address? Bad packaging? Hydrocarbons? These were cleaned and stored 30+ years ago. Nope, it seems they won't ship "Used Carburetors". Period. Now comes the fun part, 4 weeks later, "Where are our carburetors?" E-bays response, "They've been liquidated." Destroyed, trashed, etc.??? A rare pair of early Webers. They say we'll be reimbursed for "Sale value" but now there's one less set of
Webers in the world, and two unhappy e-bay'ers.
Just thought you all should know.
By the way, the guy at e-bay said they'd have shipped if we called them "New carburetors".

I did not know ebay facilitated shipping these days. had you used them previously with success?

shipping parts is always so sketchy. ive quit insuring stuff to the hilt, seems those packages get lost more often than the regularly herded cow... my sympathies.

I wonder if there’s some sort of EU environmental regulation against used carbs? Would they ship if one said they were cores being sent for rebuilding?

The eBay “hub” that ships international is notorious for theft. Keep a strong eye out and they will most likely be for sale soon.

A friend does a large quality of rare moped stuff and has was watched this happen plenty of times with missing items.

Total BS I would lose my freaking mind !!!

Yeah, they tried to play this with a rare Fender guitar I sold to Canada. I was and am well aware of the regulations of guitars and the wood which can/cannot be exported. The guitar had no rare wood, but they played with me on this for weeks - it finally went to Canada. You're dealing with people who, like the DMV, cannot think logically. Best of luck. Why would they trash them? I mean if it didn't leave the country, then it's still here. Always something.

.

and there ya go. as I said shipping is sketchy at best with high dollar items, but with major shippers such as UPS/FEDEX/USPS I feel there is a bit of familiarity. who the hell knows who EBAY is subletting their services out to. I wonder if they are using the can't ship carbs, they've been destroyed (possibly) to cover for the simple loss of the item?

still a bummer of the highest degree.
