should I sell?
Hi all, I am contemplating selling my 1968 912 to 911r conversion in the spring. It has been a 10 year project and the car is very close to finished and with the prices for SWB cars being so high i could sell this car and get a nice SC as a replacement. I don't need the money but right now i don't have a work space for it and its sitting in storage. what do you folks think of the value?
info: 1968 912 converted to 911r with sandcast 911 2.35L engine. fresh build engine with 87.5 LN engineering P&C's, pauter rods, non-counter crank, turbo pump, added piston squirters, rebuilt heads, distributer and new PMO carbs. DC20 cams, MSD ignition and all new bearings, hardware etc. Trans is a 901 rebuilt with new syncros and wavetrac diff. Wevo mounts and Fabcar shifter. But welded rear 911r steel flares on new quarter panels, fiberglass fenders, bumpers, hood, trunk and doors. Paint is not great but the tub was media blasted and epoxy primed so the hard parts are done. Suspension pan, rockers and floor all new. Custom front bulkhead for oil cooler and fuel cell mount. Lots of extra gussets added throughout chassis. Re-wired custom harness with relays for fuel pump and headlights. Suspension is all polybronze with custom valve bilstiens raised spindles new wheel bearings, studs etc.. Brakes are custom wilwood system with a twin master pedal box. There are tons of other details - i won't list all here now. see pictures: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1514740263.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1514740263.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1514740263.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1514740263.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1514740263.JPG |

List it on Bring a Trailer
You'll get all the money you could get. |
Finish it.
You will kick yourself for letting it go.

Only if you need the money. Otherwise you'll regret it.
|
Store it if you can. If you can't- put it on BAT.
|
Sell it.
I'd sell the engine separate from the chassis to maximize profit - since no one really cares about a 912 chassis with such a rare engine. Split it up and sell it now - market is good, people would pay a bit for the engine, and the chassis would go quickly if priced competitively. |
I would at least run it through BaT once with a reserve and see what happens before splitting it. You might get pleasantly surprised. I don’t have a clue where to value it. I stopped paying any attention to longnose cars when the market slowed down. I would pay $40-45k for a car like that but have no clue if that’s anywhere near a market price. But that could buy you a nice SC.
Maybe list it as a WTT? I traded my 68T for my 86. A couple years later I traded a ratty 85 for a 67 912. Maybe some G body guy wants to explore SWB cars. |
Sell it.
That is the wise thing to do. I know so many people who dream and hang on to projects that they will never finish. Sell it and move on with your life and start driving your Porsche dream. |
