Why do you think it's original paint? Sure looks like a aftermarket smear job to me.

Could be Apache, could be Comanche. I was told it was factory.

My knowledge of 924 minutiae is purposely limited...

I'll have to look at mine when it warms up

I must agree...that it does detail out quite nicely. SO much so that it can truly be deceiving. IMO, under ultraviolet in my garage, the paint on my car looks awful...out in daylight on a bright day at an event I will get multiple people asking how recently I'd had it painted and by whom.:D

I used to paint my old sport bikes guards after they’d been down a few times. Made em stick out. Remember the Paso?

Really cool car.. I’ve often thought it would nice to fully restore a late 70s early 80s manual 928 I’m talking interior, exterior, mechanically to the point or beyond that it looks like it just rolled off the showroom and it was 1980 again.

Then use it as a daily driver.. I know this would could cost $$$$ but what a cool way to drive around. In my mind this always takes place in Miami..

Someday..

Anyhow, the 930 and the testarossa are the top of my list for cool 80s supercars. But truthfully neither can be driven daily. Its just a fact especially with the crumbling infrastructures of most big city’s.

While the 928 was never and will never be a supercar it still the upper echelon of fine vintage gt coupes. One that could be driven every day. That in itself is mightily impressive considering it’s now 40 years old plus.

A swore I would never own a Guards Red Porsche. While shopping for a 996/997 I became sick and tired of all the grey, silver, black and blah colors. I actually was excited to see a dark blue one.

One day while surfing the web for old 911 pics I saw a GR 911 on a beautiful green lawn. It was refreshing! I now love the unoxidized GR on a 911.

Well, thats where I am heading with this one (daily driver, not miami):D

Its a clean car to begin with.
I'm currently replacing the full system, (pump hoses from tank to injectors)

Next up is a full service and while I am in there, water pump, as well as any belts/hoses/lines coolant tanks that may have aged out and become untrustworthy.
The on to cleaning up fuses and grounds etc.

The interior is quite nice regardless of age, although part of the dash is beginning to show signs so I may do that the following season.

I have a friend who bought his new and still daily drives it, so it can be done.

Interestingly I found an appraisal the prev. owner provided in a box of stuff, and while ti got a clean review, the appraiser made note of mostly fiberglass body panels.

I got a kick out of that. He must have used a magnet and finding they weren't steel must have incorrectly assumed fiberglass :D

For those who like an upgraded to later spec 930. I sort of felt this way about GR also till I got the 84 Kremer. Now this, show winning condition thru out. Original paint except where body updated, Previously owned and developed by a long time Porsche enthusiast owner. Other upgrades are a 1997 993 twin turbo motor built by ( anyone remember ) Steven Casper of Imagine Auto , hydraulic clutch linkage to handle the stiff clutch, vintage coil over suspension, fuel cell with upgraded fuel delivery, excellent original interior. This car was developed over many years. In other words some of the best of everything you could bolt into a earlier lightweight 930 with what Porsche later developed for air cooled cars. I would have built one this way if I had the ability as I liked the 993 TT but not the AWD, extra weight, automatic, electronic stuff etc. Red actually works well with this, now in my estimation, a real 930 Supercar. To bad Porsche could not build it this way ( a special wishes option) for production in the 70s & 80s. I'm glad the previous owner did build it this way. Thanks Roger SmileWavy

Red 750 Paso was my first “real” bike. Bought it when I first joined the service. Multiple ducs since then.

Even Porsche got tired of Silver by 1969.

Lucky for me that was nine years after my car left the Factory.

Eurosheister 17x7 and 9s

Tires were Nitto NT01 (better than R888s IMO)
F 225/45/17
R 255/50/17

If/when I do this set-up again, I'll go with 215/45/17 Front to have a more square/mildly stretched look

Then again, I may go with a Fifteen52 wheel, or a Compomotive, orrr Minilites, oorrr widened and upsized steelies

^^^

People that remove whale/Carrera tails from their 911s (even Targuuuuuus), in favor of ducks or no tail at all, should have their wee BBs clipped and thrown in the "do not recycle" bin! !
