Carrera 3.0 Targa 76-77

Hi,how many might be left?I believe they made 274 in 1976 and 365 in 1977.Never see any for sale or at any of the higher end auctions.1977 is the last of the light weight cars that started with the 73 RS.i think Nathambs bought a few coupes this last year.I know the Targa is not the most popular model.What kind of value for a #2 type of car?I looked at Mobile.de in Germany today and there were 2 coupes at about 100,000 Euro.Two years ago there were about 15-20 cars on their site.What do you think?Are they going the way of the 2.7 Euro with MFI?Happy 2018 Ciao Fred

For the moment Fred we are definitely still in a cooled off period and I have seen a good handful of number matching cars get sold for well under a $100k. 12 months ago they were climbing into the $150-175k range. One even sold on eBay about 18 morning months ago for $135k I think. Everything has cooled though as I just saw that a light yellow ‘74 mfi sell for $121k which is very very low especially for that color. I’m not differentiating between targas and coupes in my research. PS I have 6 now all coupes though. I almost had a targa

Just missing the reflectors on the fenders which suggests front fender change.Great color though and nice interior.Maybe a bit pricey as these are not well known.Light and less built than the turbos of the same vintage.Most were just considered Euro cars and were driven hard.I think the Targas may have survived better than the coupes though.But this car is a very nice example.Ciao Fred 914 area code is not far from NE Pa.

I bought a numbers matching 1977 C3 Targa 3 years ago. It’s now been repainted it’s original Oak Green and has a blackwatch tartan interior. I plan to get it close to a #2 condition, but still be comfortable driving it long distance to shows. Last fall I made a 1200 mile round trip to the Euro Auto Festival in Greenville, SC and got to meet Keith Martin. He approached me about the car and raved about it. He even interviewed me on the PA system at the show.

They are great driving cars with a very special engine.

Because it’s priced higher than people are willing to pay.

Yes but it’s a serious restoration project as the car was cut and welded into a pretty serious race car but never really hit the track so not worth leaving as a race car

It is funny for years a 77 3.0 C was considered and valued as no better than a 3.0 SC.

Plenty, maybe half, were delivered sportomatic. So factory manual a very rare bird.

Original paint showing some wear. Actually thought it should be worth more for this. Still puzzled.

This is the way many, many people looked at them for pretty much the last three decades, myself included. I just put them off as a early Euro SC. Now the tables have turned. Probably all of us could have gotten a 3.0 for the cost of a SC or less in 2011.

It was the same scenario for the 74/75 US Carrera. They were considered an S with Fenders and a stripe kit ........

I would love to go back in time and buy the 1975 MFI 911/83 Carrera of my dreams for $65,000. Now I would be thrilled for the referred to Yellow MFI for $121,000. I always see them advertised for $245,000 +/- $20,000.
