What's this engine worth
Just wondering what a 1600 sc engine would be worth. The engine # is 741090
It was rebuilt back in the 80's and never used. It looks to be complete but not sure if it runs. Just looking for an idea of value. Thanks. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1517418358.jpg |
Its a '65 or 66 912 engine in some funky colors. I just bought one as a core that was running recently. It was $3k but was missing muffler and generator. You can check the classifieds, Samba, Ebay etc. but you will see them in the $4-$5k range. Perhaps somebody would take a chance and pay more. Who knows. I think the 912 engines are desirable for various reasons. They can be converted for use in a 356, have the most hp of the 356/912 engines (except the 4 can engine) have the good heads/crankshaft/cam/rods and are 12 volt. It looks its still in the car. Whats happening with that? :)

Thanks for the response Matt.
I was looking into buying the car. The current owner didn't think it was the original motor but maybe it is. The car is a 66 912. No rot just surface rust in places. Of course the car has been taken apart and in many boxes. So, I am trying to figure out what a good offer would be. Also thinking if I bought it and it's not the original motor, I could sell the motor and put in a 3.0 or ... |
Just buy it and upgrade the engine to an 1883 or Wilhoit 2130 if you want more power
|
It might even already be a 1720 since it has been gone through. Buy the car and take the engine apart.

About $5,000 seems about right, maybe less maybe more for a complete engine with unknowns but cclean like yours.
I have rebuilt many low budget engines where I have used left over paint from a previous rebuild like this one with Chevy orange on it. |
Solex carbs?
