Value on 68 Long block.

Hello Pelicans

I just bought a project car and it came with what I was told was a 73 motor (complete long block out of car) However after looking at the case numbers 901.101.101.1R and the motor number - which starts 328 (can't remember the rest of it) I now know it's a US delivery 68t motor ... not a 2.4t in any way.

My question! - What is the value of this long block. It's super clean and looks unmessed with.

Any ideas?

I should have checked the numbers prior to purchase.

Aluminum or magnesium? It changed mid year and makes a difference. Still on Weber IDTs?

Magnesium according to the numbers ... I do have the IDTP's as well.

It's probably a 1969 model year engine, which back in the day was the least valuable 911 engine. Who knows today!

The 1968 US 911 used the same engine for all models: 911 and 911L. Those came with Weber 40IDAP carbs.

328xxxx is a 68 normal serial number I believe.

Yes, it was the 1968 normal motor. Should have 40IDA carbs. Engine type 901/14. Installed in both U.S. models 911 and 911L.
So does the engine run?

$5-6k as a core, $8+ if it runs.

Matt, Is there any specific value in it as it's a 68? - or is that 5 to 6k just a guideline for an early (and basic) motor? - I guess another way to ask the question is is there anything desirable or high value with that motor (unobtainium cases or heads or whatever) and THANK YOU!

I think you'd be quite fortunate to get $5K to $6K for the core. The only value would be for someone looking for a car's original engine or for a 1968 911 that the owner wants a near numbers matching engine for. One (well, I...) would not start with this engine to make anything much north of 160 HP, and the cost to even get to that would be high.

I’m including the carbs in the number. They are 1/3 of my math.

Conda,
Nothing special. It’s a 2l mag engine. It isn’t an S so it’s just a core.

Agree Matt... but the carbs are IDTs. I do completely admit to my biases and am perhaps somewhat out of touch with the current price levels!

I look at this as the bench racing forum. There is one way to find out, list it. Everything else is some random dude on the internet just giving an opinion.

Just saw this after i posted. Random data point. Watch and see if it sells.
