I'm Just a VIN...but a Pretty Good VIN

Just for giggles, what kind of value would the crowd put wrecked 1972 911 coupe? And by "wrecked" I mean a tub that is definitely torqued in the front, crushed roof, scavenged all-to-hell interior, no body panels worth saving, but with rear torsion tubes that they MIGHT be OK. Imagine 4 coats of paint, but maybe Signal Orange as the original color. And Imagine it in the junkyard, under an old VW bug for the last 30 years, with JUST the VIN tag near the smugglers box. The A pillar VIN plate is long gone.

How about blasted and then left outside for 10 years? Luckily it was an S, so it still had value. Had it been a T, not much value left. If your car is a T, I wouldn't drag it out, just photograph it, say a Prayer to the Porsche Gods, have a moment of silence, and move on.

Thanks for the reply. So yeah, let's call it an "S". Value?

Until 20 years from now, in 2040, when the Porsche market is just like the Ferrari market where the VIN is pretty much gold and worth as much as physical car.

I dragged this one out of a Canadian junk yard, but it was fairly complete. I have this one on ebay right now for $17,000, no reserve, so far, no takers.

Well, it's a targa, so........

But thank you for the reference point.

FYI, that link goes to a flared '70 Targa.

There are Porsche's like that now, but they better be pretty rare. There wasn't much left of Spyder #1 when they found it in a shoe factory in Mexico, but it's looks great in the Collier collection now.

Right, the yellow one sold about 10 years ago, the white one is current.

Was the yellow one a '72?. Can't quite tell. In my mind, the one year only '72 "side oilers" get a premium.

Thanks Adam for posting that one. I did not even know that they had 550 #1 still around.

That's not the Spyder everyone is looking for, that is 550-0055, it's out there somewhere....
