Part flippers...Unreal.
Last week I responded to a WTB ad for a specific style of turbo wheels. I had a set of these in my garage that I had removed from a car after returning it to original Fuchs. Had procrastinated on selling them but thought this was a good opportunity for a quick sale to free up the garage space and help a Pelican out.
I sent pics of the wheels to the gentleman and gave him a very fair price. He expressed interest and we were in the process of discussing shipping costs via email. This morning I see that he has posted a for sale ad for my wheels, using the pictures I sent him, at a significantly higher price than what I had offered to sell them to him for. I guess I should be thankful in that I now have perhaps a better idea of what the wheels are worth....hard to believe someone would post a flipper ad in THE SAME FORUM I contacted him through, BEFORE he even has the items in his hands...Sheesh. |
Another couple of days and he may have had you drop ship them to the person he sold them to.
"The world ain't what it seems to be Gunny, you keep that in mind". |
That is low and very tacky.
I do not respond to WTB ads at all any more. Either flippers or they really mean "Want To Buy For Less" Chances you are helping some one out seems to be slim to none anymore with those ads. |
I’m usually slow to say this, but name names. Hell, if someone did that to me I would report the userid.

Yea, who is it? We don't need the marketplace here turning into Craigslist.
|
Yeah, I debated outing him. I was shocked/pissed to see his for-sale ad first thing this morning. I will say he has not deleted it yet; just added a comment that they were 'no longer available'..

wow...

I was expecting the flipper to have a low post count and disapointed to see long time member.
Don't lose faith- 99% of us are posting WTB because we are so deep into our projects that saving a few $$$ vs. purchasing new when we are down the slippery slope is meaningful. |
I'll echo that not all WTB posters are bad apples. I post WTBs all the time and recently bought a car that's now in my garage from a WTB.
This however is super tacky and quite blatant. Stupid move |
At the very least he could have put the FS ad on Samba.:D
|
had the same thing happen to a tee with a set of 9x16 fuchs even in that he used my photos! no shipping involved as he was local AND I drove the further distance to meet up.
the guy im referring to is the guy dan that organized the tours around Monterey around the time of the historics. he low balled me saying how badly he needed them for a project car of his. lesson learned. |

This is a "bad" story for sure.
I echo the comments that WTB ad posters can be real. I bought my 964 that way. |
Found the Momo hub I was looking for pretty quickly with a WTB ad, though I did also get a message from the latest scammer. Don't assume they're all bogus! :)
|
it was never about scamming or not finding what you want on the WTB ads---it was about that a person sold something to another and before the buyer had the item in his hands, the buyer resales it up at a marked up price using the photo's that the seller used.

Do your research and figure out market value for parts. Unless you really know the other party no friends and family discounts. I have heard a lot of stories in my time, don't believe most of them..
