70 914
A 1970 914 cropped up in a local marketplace site. I have no idea what the 914 market is doing. I assume it's getting a bump from the 911 market.
I've messaged the owner with a few questions. He says it runs and drives. I asked about rust in the frunk, a-arm area, floor pans... He says it's all in great shape. He only posted a few pictures. So, what's a typical starting point for a running/driveable 70 914? ![]() ![]() ![]() My wife says I cannot buy the car...

I rarely if ever see any 1970 914s for sale.
If they say no rust then they are not looking hard enough. I'd seriously need to see this baby on a lift or something. 914 inner rockers always scare me. So does the trunk area. Looks like my first 914. That was oh...30 years ago. If it was clean I see that $8K would not be out of whack...remember these cars creep up on you and all those pieces and parts and fuel system are no different in price from a 911. 1970 would make it valuable to me, as the early cars don't often show up for sale. Plus it's the year I was born. The paint looks to be redone for sure. I don't like the chrome wheels...but this is easily fixed. |

Not enough pictures to say. Need trunks, engine, undercarriage and interior. Could be $10k. Could be $20k.

Crazy things happen when you move. Moving sucks and I have moved thousands of miles in the past 4 years. Still the 911 is with me - in even more pieces now. I hate to think of moving it again in pieces. That's why my goal is to have it done by the end of April (at least moving on its own). |

914's are creeping up. I'd be interested in a fine example, but would be very picky to find the right one.

There was one in Little Rock on CL for several months at $9,500 until a few weeks ago, same color and possibly the same year. I think it had around 60k stated miles and rust free, originally from AZ I believe.

There was also a white one here in Nashville that sat on CL for six months @ $8500, supposedly low mileage as well with the 1.7. Pictures looked good, but I never saw it in person.

914 weak points are longitudinals and the hell hole. You'll have to take the outer rocker off to see the longitudinal and the hell hole is under the battery. They're notorious for rusting out there. It is true you don't see very many 1970 914's, most of those ghastly tail shifters have been thrown away by now. Because of that, I'm sure they've become collectors items.

The first 911 ride I had was a SC Targa, and the first 911 I drove was a 911T Targa - so that made me a Targa guy - as I now find coupes too claustrophobic. I am one of those guys that find the Targa more pure than a coupe - and the experience of a Targa much more satisfying with all the extra noise. |

I denied it for a time, but I’m out of the closet. I’m a targa, that that likely has 914 roots to it. Topless is best.

1) I continue to be perplexed why Cabs come up dead last price wise, especially when "topless is best". I love em. 2) I bought my first Porsche, a 3 year old, Polo Red 912 with 30,000 miles on it, the year you were born. Happy birthday!

Howard Meister won the SCCA National Runoffs in BProduction in a Andial Sponsered Targa with a Richie Ginther low cut windscreen like the 914-6.It had a high butterfly mechanical injection with single plug.Ciao Fred
