Help With 930 Value
 

I'm in the market for a 930 to replace the one I sold before the prices went crazy. Looks like prices are coming down a bit and I've accepted the fact that I'll be paying a whole lot more than I sold mine for. That being said, I'm considering a 87 930 coupe, totally original (paint, wheels, radio, etc.), 40K miles, no mods ever, fully documented from purchase agreement to present. An exceptionally nice car. I solicit your opinion of realistic market value. Thanks.

I've owned quite a few 911/930's and this looks like a nice one.

Thanks, that’s pretty much what I was thinking.

Keep in mind BaT is the freaking Wild West of car buying. Myself and others feel the bat bump is great for a seller but that buyers are overpaying 5-10% regularly. Do not pay BaT prices for a private party sale.

I think it was Adam Wright that once posted a statement that I think applies to eBay and BAT. "There are no good deals on the Internet."

Add on buyers commission and it's even crazier. I do t understand why people buy from BaT but to each their own.

Yesterday RM auctions Ft Lauderdale An 87 930 that did not run on the auction block, 68K miles, exceeded high auction no reserve estimate and with commission sold for $101.700.00 Said to be original no mods. also no PPI or ride and drive. Another one a 89 convertible with the ( desirable ) 5spd Black Black 70K miles some mods also exceeded high estimate and sold with commission for $94K. Again no PPI or ride and drive.

I was at the auction, which seemed to be somewhat devoid of Porsche collectors, at least in terms of bidding on these two lots anyways. Both cars appeared to be dealer acquired. And the only reason the coupe sold for more than the cab is because it is two years older. The 2nd highest bidder (another dealer from South America) bid on both cars, but would’ve had a far higher import tax to pay on an ‘89 as he would’ve had on an ‘87, so he couldn’t bid as much for it. Because the ‘87 is a couple years older and was outside the 30 year time limit for import duties (per what he told me), he could pay much more for that one. Between the lack of collector interest and the import duties an ‘89 has versus an ‘87, the turbo cab turned out to be very well bought. It was by far the better car, the rarer car, and sold for less money. It was a terrific buy.

But this also seems to show some exhaustion from collectors IMO, at least on a very micro perspective at this one auction anyways. As just about all of the bidder interest I saw on both of these cars was from dealers. I just played spectator yesterday...no bidder badge for me, or that turbo cab probably would’ve sold for 6 figures with juice.

It shows us that with the weakness of the dollar we are seeing lots of these cars being bought to ship and sell overseas. It also shows us for those that have their heart set on an ‘89 turbo for the 5 speed, that you better get one bought soon, before the import duties for those too become much less or even exempt.

If the ‘87 was the cab and the ‘89 the coupe, the prices would’ve been reverse. At least in terms of this auction at this moment in time. It was all year specific, the hammer price had much less to do with the specifics of the car than the import duties one of the final two bidders had to incur had he won, which was only year based.

Agree that 89 was the good deal even for a dealer wholesale bid, lucky him. It looked decent from photos. Interested to see what the 77 930 gets. As you noted in another thread it had failed 2 part paint and maybe rust repair ( salt use? ) or carless storage. All the ones that want a car with these creds will grit their teeth if it does not beat high estimate although it needs some serious $$$$ spent to get it looking and to probably driving good also.

My kind of sale:) If buying I wish I had attended. The 77 930 @ $121K with commission although with what it really was and needed, probably was a good price. Lots of buyers missed a great opportunity for good deals by missing this sale. Other nice Porsches were cheap, so many Porsche enthusiasts missed the boat.

Not if prices continue falling.
