Values ?

Hello all,

Need some help with a couple of P car values as I'm thinking of selling due to imminent move back across the pond.

First P car is an 80 Euro coupe, original slick top and has had a 74 backdate refurb/rebuild in 2007. Polar Blue in colour, motor rebuilt, gearbox rebuild, PMO carbs, Guard GT diff, SSI heat exchangers, all gauges rebuilt by N. Hollywood, 7 & 9 inch polished Fuchs redone by HW, new tyres, new interior brakes, suspension, etc, etc. She weighs 2299 lbs w/ a half tank of fuel and is corner balanced . Car was done by Monty Jarvis of Redmond European. The paint is not perfect but only noticeable when up very close. Fast & nimble w/an intoxicating timber. She only has about 16k miles on the odometer since 2007 and I've owned her for the last 5-6 years. So much more to list but wanted to keep it shortish.

The other car is an 02 996 C4S, Meridian metallic, black leather, 6 speed manual, 2 owners, 60k miles, IMS/RMS done, lowered to euro height, Fabspeed X-pipe, IPD plenum, H & R springs, Bilstein short struts, Champion forged one piece 19 inch alloys, in amazing condition, clean carfax, last owner had her for 10 years. I have all the original parts for both cars as well.

So, what do you fellas think ? I'm in no hurry to sell and in two minds but thought I'd at the very least get some idea of value.

Thanks in advance for everyones input.

Man that 80SC looks amazing. I want it also!

pretty nice backdated 81 sold on BAT in January for 67k
Hard to make an apples to apples comparison on these things.
I dont know how the euro car affects the value or if it does at all.

Monty does nice work. That car looks lovely. I say put it on BAT. It might sit here at $45k but could sell there for $55k.

Thanks for the compliments, appreciate everyones input. No love for the C4S ? lol I know, this is air cooled world here but thought I'd try.

littleoldman; Besides the above brief description, I can add that she has a custom exhaust, turbo tie rods, Victor steering wheel and a Prototipo, seats are redone in German vinyl, new headliner, RS leather door panels, RS carpets, rear seat delete, LED's for the gauges (not too bright), Ruf bumpers by Shaw, SC sport cams, rebuilt calipers, new wheel bearings, Sachs sport clutch, etc. She is pretty well sorted and the 3.0 revs nicely. She would be a great canyon carver, had her with me in Vermont for the year and loved driving through the twisties in the mountains and beyond.

C4S like that one could fetch 30-35K on BAT. It's worth 27-30 street price, perhaps a bit more.

The 996 is tough. That’s a $35k car here in CO, but closer to $25k in CA or FL. All about population size and inventory on that one. It’s not as much of a national market.

I can’t imagine that there’d be this large a gap in value within the same country, especially considering shipping would only be a fraction of it. I personally don’t think that’s worth 35k anywhere since you can buy turbo’s in the upper 30k’s.

This is the only 996.2 in Denver CL. And it’s not a 4S There’s just no inventory. And people don’t look at these like a vintage car. They want to test drive them in person. I bought my Boxster out of state because there was a20-25% bump in state. Most people aren’t like me.

If there is a 10 grand gap in the market between Cali and Colorado then we're missing a HUGE arb opportunity. I could have an 8 car carrier there in a week if there is 10 grand a copy to be made. SoCal to Denver is a 1 day drive. Cost $500 a car to move them tops.

Too bad there aren’t Porsche futures...I’d be selling the snot out of the Colorado 996 C4S market right now. Maybe we’ve finally figured out where all of these BaT buyers are from, that are paying silly premium for cars - Colorado.

it also has to do with California buyers and what they want. they want new here in the heart of silicon valley. I just went for a ride in an 18 cayman the director of planning bought. no, he din't let me drive it but the turbo charged flat four sure sounded and went good,,, for the director of planning driving it.

not sure of M2's numbers, but see & agree with the premise having seen it here. had the director of planning been offered a C4S that was 12 years old at a good price he'd pass on it all day.

more appreciative markets elsewhere I reckon...

53k mile ‘03 996 C4S in Colorado asking 26k.
The said $26k car has had a previous shunt & been converted to 2 wheel drive, hence the price. I would rather pay a few thousand dollars more for a better car but we all have our likes and dislikes, horses for courses.

Just curious, in this case what is a “74 backdate” on a SC? Is it heat exchangers, dash pad/vent, or maybe seat stitch pattern? Car looks good.

I call it a 74 backdate as that is how she was described when I found her here on Pelican. I'm not 100% on what a 74 backdate should really be but yes, heat exchangers, choke and heat lever in between the seats, duck tail, dash is the same and I'm not sure that the other upgrades to the car would warrant "74 backdate".

The car is one of my fav's that I own here in the US.

Point taken, I didn't really study the listing. I agree with you that the OP’s 996 is a nicer car. My main point here is that there’s no way it’s worth 35k anywhere in this country when a 996 turbo can be bought for that. See this recent sale, virtually the same miles as the OP’s car - and it sold for 35k.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Porsche-911-BLACK-LEATHER/202207147898?hash=item2f147c377a:g:NwkAAOSwRTVabbt 4&vxp=mtr

I don’t know who would prefer to have a 996 C4S over a 996 turbo for the same dollars. It seems illogical to me, but that’s just my opinion.

JMS935, I can't argue the toss on that and yes I don't think I can get $35k for my C4S but was hoping for somewhere around the $31k mark. Whoever bought that TT got a stonking deal.
