Should I buy these Late G-body/964 Sport Seats?
I have a line on a set of Reupholstered Sport Seats that were done in leather inserts and appears to be a quality job.
The price is $2600 shipped for the set. Does this sound reasonable considering the the crazy price sport seats seem to fetch these days? I feel like this is a reasonable price, or have I gotten jaded by the Porsche pricing? I've narrowed my seat options to this or the BF Torino Rally ST seats FWIW, Currently I have 987 seats which are somewhat comfortable, but look stupid.. Thanks for the input! They look like this:

Just watch out for scams. Seen them around $3K occasionally.

I think all these prices are insane. I miss aircooled cars/pricing from 5+ years ago when people just thought of them as VWs with two extra cylinders. The mega money being paid for all these cars/parts make the scene a lot less fun and way too serious. 3k for seats!? Seriously? Ugh.

I'm hoping to recoup at least a good chunk of that after I sell the seat I currently have.

https://bringatrailer.com/search/fuchs/ $2,600 is good a deal if the sport seats are nice. Original 964 & 993 hardbacks are fetching way more these days. |

I love sport seats. All my cars have them.
The upholstery guy I use in South Florida does really nice work. He charges 2,000 for materials and labor to recover a set. They are perfect. I have spent 7-800 on a pair that needed to be recovered. If I needed a set I would buy those, provided they are really nice. Is it ridiculous, yes. The days of a set of sport seats for 800 dollars does not seem to be coming back.

So I have seen pictures of the seats. A lot of them. The guy that reupholstered them runs an actual shop and is active on rennlist (with a lot of positive reviews) and seems to be a stand up guy.
I expressed my concern for buying sight unseen and is willing to pay shipping back for a full refund if I’m not happy.

Getting a set of good cores recovered is around $2200, so a set with fresh leather covers that shows up at your door for $2600 is a deal. Market being what it is, etc..
Edit - I had a set in a 968 a while back - I'm 6' 175# and the fit is great. I think the g50/964 seats are the best fitting of the bunch, but the sport version is just that much better. Heavy buggers, though. Last edited by Flynt; 05-02-2018 at 07:48 AM.. |
