1975 Porsche 930

I am looking for any information on this model?
How many were made?

What is the stock engine? 5 speed?

Is it a good model to purchase? Problems with the 75 930?

What is the value of this vehicle?

The 1975 930 would be very rare in the US. Europe perhaps, but not for sale in the US until 1976.

1976-1977 cars are spec'd the same, although options may differ.

15" rims (7 and 8 x 15) were standard (16"s not available till 1978)

They were 4 spd (all Turbos were until 1989)

HP? I've seen ratings of 260hp (euro) and about 234 (us) in various period correct publications.

3.0 liter motor. no intercooler.

small brakes (essentially the brakes from a 911 "S").

1978-1979 had a host of improvements and are thus the more sought after cars: they received 1) displacement bump to 3.3l (good for 300hp) and the addition of an Intercooler; upgraded "turbo" brakes; 16" wheels.

Not sure of value simply because few were made and even fewer survived without modification.

The first year Turbos were notoriously known for Turbo lag. You could almost count down... 3...2...1.. Blastoff!. Make sure you're pointed where you intend to be when the boost comes on because you will be there quickly.

Off boost, ugh. Seemingly no power at all.

Well . . .

I called this guy. It is a 1975 911. The serial number starts with 911. It is a non turbo car. It has the wide body kit on it. The motor is a 3.0 - 1978 SC engine.

The owner has owned the car for 18 years. Some small bubbles around windshield. Three inch hole in rear pan. The car has been setting. It now has a running problem due to varnish fuel.

The guy wants $12500 for the car.

You are right the serial # have to start with a 930, I believe there was approx 235 of them built the first year. Mine is serial # 175th so I did some research before, as mine as brought into the US and registered as a 76 for insurance purposes. Other than the minor US requirements, it is pure Euro with a lot of HP and for the most part stock.
The true value is the low mileage (less then 75k) and the fact that being the first year of the production 930 tradition (and first production turbo automobile) you are trully looking at a collecters car based on what it represents. I hope you find a real one as I did, as they history can not be duplicated only falsely copied.

Hello,
I believe 284 930 cars were made in 1975 I have # 233 it survived with no modifications other than the addition af a passenger side mirror. (safety first!)

I also think that only 284 My75 930s were produced.

Mine is #109, has survived intact in the hands of its unique previous owner in Germany.

Hello,

One of hte other interest of the 1975 930 is specify by porsche: The workshop manual precise a weight of 1140 kg ( 2514 lbs) for 930 until Nov 1975
and 1195 kg ( 2635 lbs) after nov 75 .
It might be due to non rust protection .

any possibility of reviving this thread, only this time with some pictures of the cars?
I'm interested to see if any US 75's came with front fogs, sport seats, or passenger side mirrors. I know they were optional on the euro models, but the factory tried to load up the US cars as much as possible, and I think my 77 (#255) landed somewhere in the middle, as I have no passenger side mirror, but do have sport seats and LDS diff.
Also the size of the secondary grill seems to have increased mid 76, maybe the result of a/c - climate control being standard?

Hello Bill,
There were no 75 930 built for the us market. as far as i know 75 is the only year the 930 had only one mirror. my car which is car #233 for 75 not 77 like your car did come with front fog lights. As for the secondary grille. All 76 models have the larger grille in response to keep temps down and offer a\c for the us market. 75 models had no air. i will dig up some photos of my 930.

there was no 930 for US in 1975, and only 284 of them were built for ROW.
At 1140kgs, they are the lightest turbo ever built, and there are small differences from 76 ones:
Exterior: one non-electric mirror and no stone guards, no zinc protection on body
Interior: dash and door panels as 75 carreras, with speaker grille (like pre-bumper ones).

This is an interesting thread and I don't want to take it off the topic of 1975 930s, but do want to correct the above information about wheel diameters . The 1977 930 was the first year for the 16" Fuchs...16x7 and 16x8. There are some other differences too.

I really like the pictures of the '75 930s posted so far and hope we learn more detail about them.

if you register you can download the 930 Repair manual wich the differences between the year models. take car as photos of 1975 cars is mix with 1976 or 1977 models.

16" wheel are for 1977 model ( begin august 1976 I suppose).

You will notice that the car have 2 wrong mirrors , I will soon put the right one ( not electric on the 1975 model !!) as the rear spoiler update to the later model .

What we found is: All factory turbo suspension mounts, Factory turbo rear flares, Factory rear wiper, intermittent wiper controls and headlight washers and out of a total production run of 1359 cars this one is 1365. The orginal Turbo was designated a 911 Turbo then changed to a 930 model.
