Regardless of its condition or miles, this seems totally ridiculous.

Hoping to make a wee bit of profit from a risky Pebble Beach bid 2 years ago?

Been getting emails about that listing for about a year now.

Now this qualifies as an attempted flip. Not really like itzamillennial

Boy 2ndTARGA you're on it. Hilarious - maybe someday, but not now. What are the real differences?

It is ridiculous! It's just a Carrera 3.2 without a sun visor and a few other bits and bobs. Where's the value here, in the low mileage? In that case, what can you do with it? Enjoying driving it for one summer will halve the value due to the accumulation of miles... then what? This is a fool's game.

Totally agree! It’s a gimmick, and they got suckered by it. The reason so few were built is because who wanted to pay a premium to have parts removed from a car just to make it lighter? That’s kind of a con job isn’t it? And now decades later the “rarity” of it got someone drunk on its exclusivity alone. The seller made out like a bandit, they should’ve given the auction house double the commission for listing it with such an asinine reserve as to suck in a buyer at that level. This will easily be a six figure mistake. There are far better cars available at half this asking price. This is a perfect example of why you shouldn’t ever heed an auction house’s estimate without doing your own due diligence first.

The "con job" that is now called the Porsche GT program. I think these Carrera Club Sports are special cars because they are a key part in the history of the Porsche RS program. This has nothing to due with "far better cars available at half the asking price". These are strictly collectors cars these days. I doubt anyone is still tracking one of them. Plus anyone who owns 1 of the 28 in the US is most likely a serious car collector or high end broker/dealer selling for client. They control the market and will not let these go for cheap.

There are several in Colorado and at least one of them still sees track service. They are unique cars but i wouldn't put them on par with an SC-RS. More like an RSA.

I would put them in the 964 RS (row) category.

I’ve been previously dressed down by members for poo pooing the real 964 RS. I’m not gonna go there today.

Here’s an article on the Patrick car:

Even if they got their asking price its been a poor investment. If they paid $330, I'll assume they've incurred another 5 grand in expenses. (Trucking, Insurance, Service, Storage etc etc.) I assume they didn't drive it much if at all. You could have bought a simple S and P 500 ETF in the summer of 2016 and be up 25% or more. I don't think 2016 was the peak in the air cooled market. IIRC Summer of 2015 was the recent top for these cars.

Thats a sweet car, someday it will be worth the asking price. I don't see it this year or next but you never know.

These are the only cars I wanted in the late 80's , even though they pissed me off at the time. Porsche was grasping at straws and here was an example of a way to get more money for less options.

I loved the fact that they were getting back to minimalization, but hated the fact that they were charging extra for it.

And here it comes again. Deja' vu.

That was my point. To charge extra for something because of what it doesn’t have as opposed to what it does have...that is a gimmick no matter how you look at it. This is why so few were even bought back then. Regardless of my own personal opinion on it, this doesn’t look like it turned out to be a good investment - at least not at this point in time. Maybe they need to put it back in storage for a decade and hope it ends up being a good one down the road.

UK variants only came in white. Here in the States there were a variety of colors.

Don't blame Porsche, blame the buyers.
Porsche is in the business of making money and they can ask anything they want; but it takes bonehead buyers to drink the Kool Aid and set a precedent and now, voila! you have a "market value" on something.

I realize this post is a few months old but, I did want to mention that I talked to one of the sales guys at Patrick the other day.....this car did not sell and went back to the owners collection.

The highest these cars have gone was $400k a few years ago. It was a white low mileage car and the buyer knew he was overpaying but wanted the car so much he did not care. A few months ago there was a white one that had 80k miles on it and a repaint for $235k and a black one at $290k. Both were at a FL dealer.

000 magazine did a extensive overview of the CS in their second edition......worth a read.
