Also worth checking in the bearing at top of the steering column, which was the problem with my '83 SC. Remove the steering wheel and the plastic bush and you can see the bearing.

Nope, but if it is the relay, I might try jumpering the connections on the relay socket. But, if the relay is unplugges, it doesn;t make any difference.

You can (carefully) prise the mirror out from the mirror body with a screwdriver (or piece of wood etc). It just clips out. Hopefully you can see what the problem is then.
