I did compare them with new ones. The new ones were looser than the old ones. I even pulled one of the old ones apart. Couldn't see any significant wear on the ball either.

I have a 1977 930 with a K27 on it and had the same problem with the bracket. I just trial fitted the rear tin work and used a vice to bend and re-align the bracket to accept the K27 - worked fine.
