what probably happened on the outside of your rims...... is that at some point they were rattle can painted... then rattle can clear over that... then the UV rays of the sun killed the crappy rattle...

The next biggest flaw is the mirrors but that can be fixed by the next restoration someday.

yikes... just saw the engine turned headlight buckets. get rid of those puppies!... just paint them correctly. Really cool relic of the 80's speedster style... but none of that helps value!
