do not rely too much on the tach, they are well know for not working. On mine it starts working after a couple of miles of driving or when I knock it a bit... same for the speedometer...

Check that your throttle position switch is properly adjusted, or you are going to have a rich mixture at idle that cause your engine to stall a bit when you release the pedal, and some rough idle......
