Had a '90 C2 that had an extremely heavy...
Had a '90 C2 that had an extremely heavy pedal...wore out the pivot pin. Finally took out the clutch and it had been fitted with a turbo pressure plate....no good as the turbos are power assisted....

Pull the floorboard and see if the roll pin holding the pedal to the horizontal shaft hasn't failed leaving the pedal useless. Outside chance it could be the fault.

Can be done. Four 13mm nuts hold the assembly down, brake rod, switch wires, throttle rod, two cylinder nuts, cylinder rod attachment and you can pop it up off the four floor studs and slide it out...

A low pitched, thudding clatter is a chain tensioner. Sounds like a staccato rattle that stops in a second or two. Lifters are a higher pitch ticking.
Tensioners have to pump up too at times.
