Reuse Aged Wiring Harness?

My wiring harness in the 911T has no cuts or cracks. A bit stiff. I had to remove it for a ground-up restoration. Is there a method to soften it? like the heat gun? Could I re-use it?

Was the 1970 911 was applied gravel guard/noise control over bare metal and then spray painted over it with exterior color? This applies to wheel wells, underbody, engine compartment and trunk.
