blown boxster engines is a known problem for the late 98, early 99 models. the cylinder sleeves slip. happened to mine and spent $12k on a suped-up boxster S engine swap.

granted, that issue of consumer reports came out this year, but lets also not forget about the infamous engine failures of the earlier boxsters, like mine and thousands of other owners experienced.....

happened to mine too. I was suppose to have a 3.4L swapped in, but instead I went with a 3.2s w/ reprogrammed ECU. Runs really nice now, eh hem $12k later...

chances are, porsche won't help you...
