Do what mike said my 81 SC had the same issue hooked up the vom and started to remove fuses when I got to the culprit it was very hot to touch, it was the power window switch.

No it is definitely the fuel pump I can hear from home to the the petrol station is only a few kilometres so the engine would only be reaching operating temp at best .
