Having owned an HP2 Sport for 2 years and now...

Having owned an HP2 Sport for 2 years and now having put 1,000+ miles on a new S1000RR I'd have to say that the S1000RR is by far the better performer.

No question that the HP2S is the pinnacle...

Exactly! Nothing but the lower fairing was damaged and not severely at that. I can't even remember which side it was on but it was quite near the bottom and toward the front!?

It was damaged in shipment...not to the point of being unsound but certainly a serious cosmetic issue. I wouldn't have noticed it for a while but the service technician who uncrated the bike noticed...

I did the little round convex mirror thing and the result is a net positive but not a real solution. Since they cover a part of the mirror that gives you a good view of your elbows you don't lose...
