I sold my 87 951 recently, got it into my head I had to have a 911. The 951's shifting, while a little long in throw, was solid and precise, anything but vague, in fact these cars shift pretty well....

That's worth checking, as well as the AFM wiper. Check Clark's garage for the test procedure, you'll need to rig up a 9v battery to test the wiper. They do go bad after 20 years...
