Oil temp gauge - bouncing needle

After about 25 min drive today I looked down at the temp gauge and saw the needle in the red and then when press on trhe gas a little the needle bounces from top to bottom. Under load it hit rock...

I have fabricated my own camera mount bar, I will post pics if you like - It bolts on to the seatbelt mounting points, it has a flat plate elded in the middle which the normal camera tripod mounting...
