Another way might be to carefully use a dremel (if you can get it in there) and grind a line away so the bushing collapses. Even if you happen to score the bore a tad, it shouldn't hurt anything.

I have Boge struts and simply cut a section out...

I have Boge struts and simply cut a section out of the portion above the spindle and welded in a section below the spindle giving the same effect as a "raised" spindle. Easy!
