No. 12 should be plenty large enough. 14 would probably be OK, too. 16 is easily large enough for the field wire (DF). It's just a short run.

I don't know how badly they are corroded, of course, but it's possible that a machine shop could flycut the bases to flatten them again. This is a standard thing to do with the Solexes.

If you do end up replacing the clutch, you really should have some kind of manual. Easiest to get is probably the "Porsche 912 Handbook" (AKA "orange book")...
