Mine is a 1982 911 SC. Been through a couple owners but we can trace it back to an owner in New Mexico. 72k mi.

I wonder why a previous owner may have put the damper on?

While the engines were the same, according to my mechanic and to my driving instructor, we can tell the engine was from a cab due to a shock absorber on the engine...
