I put an 84 Carrera front on as bolt-on all the way. Only thing I had to change was the steering rod out of the rack. Comparing the two racks It looks like the 911 rack has built in bump steer.

You need to look to see if the heater blower...
You need to look to see if the heater blower comes on when you pull the defroster lever. If not the circuit is broken. As JPN pointed out they are on the same circuit.

When upward leverage is put on the bale I find it helpful to have a strong rag doubled around the bale for holding additional pressure. Helps if the bale tends to pass the groove or lever slips.
