Thx, all, for the input. Wound up using it on all wire connections. It all came together and fired up without a problem. Found a crack on the dist cap, which was, I'm sure, the source of my issues...

Yeah, from the reading the search hits, it looks like I'll definitely grease the posts to plugs, posts to dist cap and post from dist to the coil. I wasn't as sure about the rotor or the connections...

I am changing my coil, wires, distributor/rotor and plugs in my '84 Targa. I have heard it is best to use dielectric grease on the connections to help with both the connection and avoiding moisture...

Unplugged the O2 sensor - no change. Still will run for a while at 850, then drop to around 600 or so. So I would think it is something other than the O2 sensor.
