I doubt the guide is clean broken - the noise disappears abruptly after exactly five seconds. If it is the tensioner, it's just taking a while to kick in.

Horrid start-up noise

It gives me much joy to report my '97 2.5 has developed a lovely new start up noise. I've linked two youtube vids below - one of a start up with the new noise and one of a normal sounding start up...

Yes, the R has an LSD as standard. It's also now available as an option for the whole Cayman range. Has been for all Gen 2 cars.
