There's an updated system integrated through an 'adapter plug' that utilizes the twisted pairs of speaker leads from the 'brown plug' - just like every picture on the internet.

71' 911 T Targa For Trade

I have a matching numbers 71' T Targa that I've slowly been restoring. I have driven it, but it's in serious need of Carb rebuild so I'll say it's not running. It has had some rust repair done around...

Cams seem to be right on the money - assuming that I'm doing it correctly:
Z1 mark lined up with timing mark on the fan housing, distributor rotor pointed at plug 1, both cams have the "dot" at the...

Thanks for the feedback. I've been messing with this for a while now trying to avoid a teardown. Disassembled back to the Cams with the engine still in the car last night. I'll start from scratch...

Backfire Through Carbs

Pulled apart my 2.2T motor and installed rings. Now the compression is good but it runs very rough and pops through the carbs on the Left side. #1 cylinder doesn't seem to be firing at all. Did I not...

Well Guys,
I've decided to spend a minute on my Zeniths. They're not perfect and they're easier to rebuild and eliminate as a problem than the Cam Timing is (for me). I'll likely be back looking...

I forgot to share that the Timing light showed things to be pretty close. It won't set and idle but the timing falls towards 5 deg. and advances towards 30 when I rev it up. Not ready for the...

Well, I spent a lot of time on the cam timing following the Dempsy book to the "T". Even now as I reason my way through the trouble shooting, I'm still confident that the internal timing is not the...

Guys,
Last fall I spent a week setting up the Cam Timing using Wayne's book for a guide. No one wants to have to get back into it after the engine is back in the car. I was very careful and...

Walt,
I spent lots of time with the dial indicator on the cam timing - picked the hole behind the nuts, ect. My logic here could be flawed. When the crank is at Z1, the distributor points at Cyl...

Used a Dial Guage and spent lots of time on the Cam Timing. Thought process was that if the valves remained in time with the Crank then that somewhat confirms the Cam Timing to be pretty close....

There's the Money!
When the Crank is on Z1 the rotor is pointed at cylinder 1. Can't get a steady read on the timing light but it's north of Z1 and the advance is working. I'm guessing it's close...

Cam Timing

Pulled the heads off the 71T motor without pulling the distributor or disassembling the heads. Checked the valve lash after I was finished and it was fine - no adjustment needed. I take this to mean...

Distributor Adjustment

I've got a 71T motor with a Bosch distributor. I can't seem to get the distributor to rotate/adjust even with both the nut and the clamp loosened. Am I missing something here?????

Looking for someone to focus my efforts on the Idle Circuit which should be enough to make it run. If it runs I'll start a paint job. Otherwise I move over to the Spare Parts forum. ;~)

Thumbs down Zenith Problems

Freshened up a 2.2T that had been setting for many years. At some point the car sat outside where the rings seized, so that was the primary focus of the rebuild. Most of the pre-atomizers were bad so...
