997.2 drain plug

Just bought a 2011 997.2 , wondering if it’s a good idea to use a magnetic oil drain plug for the engine

Be careful tightening your aftermarket magnetic plug. My plug - which was with the car when I bought it five years ago - was not happy with the factory torque of 37 lbs. - The flange made a clean break from the rest of the plug.

I was using a new washer at the time.

Fortunately, I have a Porsche dealer about 30 minutes away and the parts dept had plenty of plugs in stock ( PAF-008-309-OEM )

The gentleman in parts said they start to see issues with plugs after 3 to 4 oil changes.

The reason your plug broke is the magnetic plugs are torqued to 19 ft lbs., not 37......
