996, How long can it sit before it needs a charge

In other words, what can you expect if you leave the car for 3 days, a week, longer? I don't want to have to hook up the trickle charger if I don't need to.

You will need to. Unless its your daily driver it'll need a trickle charger. I've heard people have trouble starting 3days after sitting on the short side and definitely by a week of sitting you'll have issues.

Mine sits for weeks at a time.
I don’t drive it more than a day or two some weeks, and depending on my schedule and weather, it can be a while. I do put a maintainer on it pretty soon now because of the snow and salt.

Is it worse with the car locked or unlocked?

It's very important removing the key , and locking the car.

Like this , all the electronic system is desactivated .

I don’t find any measurable difference in battery discharge whether the car is locked or unlocked. As others have noted, you can’t leave the key in. Ask me how I know.

Can you jump it ? I think the manual says no but maybe that's over reacting.

Dead battery.

You can jump it, but safer to use charger. If it is totally flat (i.e. no current available) a standard charger won't work - in that case you can connect another battery to the flat one and then the charger will kick in, then you can disconnect the good battery.
But if it won't hold a charge you need a new battery.
Allowing a lead acid battery to fully discharge it kills it.

The pain is if the frunk is closed and you have a dead battery.... RTFM.

Cheers

I learn the hard way, all locked up and the battery dead. lol I always un latch the front when I pull it in the garage. Lot easier when you find out its dead. Going get a new battery tender brand maintainer, see if that works. This car eats batteries. But I wasn't locking the doors, will try that now. with the maintainer.

Does anyone know if there is a power draw if:

The hood is unlatched?
The door is unlocked?
A window is down?

Just want to add that my 99 C2 used to drive me completely mad.

I replaced the battery with a similar one when I bought the car. The battery wouldn't last longer than a week, even when the car was left locked. Eventually figured out that the PO had put too small a battery in. When I replaced the battery again, I used the proper capacity and the issue went away. Can leave the car for weeks now (provided it is locked, leaving open does drain it faster!) Maybe worth checking.

The car has a stand by mode that stops after 5 days to save battery...

Apparently you can bump start them. It's mentioned in the operating manual.
