996 Mod - Embracing the Fied Eggs

Continuing on the quest to improve the aesthetics of this former daily driver 996 it was time to tackle those ever controversial fried egg headlights. This car spent a good deal of time (years) where it was parked outdoors at least 8hrs a day. The Alabama sun took its toll on the paint and the headlights. The sun damage on the paint was fixed and I performed the standard wet sand and clear poly treatment to the headlights. The yellow was gone but I just didn't like the shape of those lights. A quick peruse of eBay informed me that new headlights were way out of budget and the 997 headlight kits just didn't look good. While surfing this forum I stumbled upon a gorgeous yellow 996 with tinted headlights. Great look! So I spoke with a few tint and wrap shops about this and how it affects the brightness of the headlights. All said it shouldn't be a problem. If figure if it is it is reversible.
So here you go, the last aesthetic mod for this car. She's now done as far as I'm concerned barring any more mechanical issues, but that's another story ...

I think the headlight tint matches the wheels pretty well. Looks like your windows are tinted, which makes it even more appropriate.

Actually, when you stop to think about it they are bad a$$ lights.
I didn't see it at first. I am not the first to realize it. Not like any of my other 911s. And Porsche gave in to the inability of the public to see it when they went back to round.

But, they are bad a$$.

Not the first time Porsche rocked the car world.

I personally don't think the lights are bad at all. Where Porsche made their mistake was sharing the lights with the less expensive Boxster. If the Boxster never existed or they used a different headlight design, the 996 lights would had tied their roots to the car above and probably been embraced. Who knows....they may have never gone back to the old round design in this alternate Porsche universe.

Assuming is the same headlight the mounting angle on the GT1 makes look much more aggressive. Better look

Having boxsters and 996s never like the yellow part. I changed all of them. Litronics helped also

Here is the before and after, how the car looked when I first acquired it and how it looks now. So far I like the headlight treatment, works well with the black wheels and tinted windows I think I've driven this car in the dark once sense buying it, if the lights are too dim I can simply remove the tint.
