Any ideas about a loose connector near the AOS?

I started a project to replace the IMS on my '99 C4 with 186K miles on it last week. When I dropped the tranny I found a loose 2 wire connector near the AOS and a plugged vacuum line.
About the time the AOS was replaced I started getting ODB codes for the cold start system. The 996 diagnostic book test process did not give me any info I trust. Air pump runs as expected. Both the good and bad tests failed, operator error :-) After I get this uploaded I will pull the codes again and update this.
For some reason the first photo was rotated 180 degrees.

It would be great if I can get some suggestions before I decided to move and finish the project.
Thanks for your help!
FYI: pulling the motor really looks like the best option for the IMS work. I was going to replace the chain guides also but the space needed for me to do the work just is not there.

(request to programmer for site , could a save button be added for temporary saving of edits?)

Thank you
Any idea where the plug is? Even with an inspection camera I can't find a socket to stick it in. Hardest area to check is outboard and rear of the AOS.
I'll see if I can bend the camera around some tighter corners
Thanks again

Thanks!
It will be next weekend before I can dig in there.
I'll let you know if my old eyes can find the socket:-)

:-( I popped the alternator out today after cleaning the shop and tools.
The change-over valve and the knock sensor both have connectors plugged in.
I will keep searching pages in my Bentley manual but have not found anything with what looks like Re/Br on 1 and Re/Bl on 2, yet.
Thanks
