Bought a used 2008 Carrera S with a few issues
First of all, hello and thanks for this awesome forum!
My name's Jay and I'm a long time Porsche enthusiast. I've loved them ever since I was a kid and I rode in my family dr's 1978 911 SC. I was hooked. My first 911 was a 1990 C2. I sold it when my daughter was born to get a more suitable family car. Now that my kids are almost grown I decided to get a project car I can enjoy for years. This 911 has tiptronic transmission which I don't mind since it has control wheel shifters. I'm going to keep this one until I die, and I want it to be immaculate (eventually). My background is aircraft maintenance and avionics, so I think I'm capable of most maintenance items which aren't requiring engine removal. Apologies in advance for my noob questions. 1) My 2008 has a GT3 front kit and rear deck. The previous owner must've hit a retread or curb and destroyed the aero skirt. The skirt pushed the left front fender liner loose so I removed it until I can get the front wheel off. Looks like screws and panel fasteners are mostly missing. This is issue #1 for me to fix. Pictures are below. 2) Both seats are not working electrically. The fuse compartment cover is missing but I think the seat control fuse is Row B, third fuse. Replacing the fuse did not fix the issue. 3) I can't open the front boot. The switch to the left of the driver seat is broken, but it still works for the rear deck/engine compartment. I've ordered a new switch from Pelican and waiting on delivery. Hopefully this will rectify the problem. 4) Driver side window switches are loose. Windows still operate up and down but it feels like maybe something broken that secures the switch. Any advice about these issues or this model I will greatly appreciate. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Welcome to the forum. For the front boot, try using the key fob to open the lid. The switches on the door sill are notorious for failing and fairly easy to replace. If the fob doesn't open it, there is a manual cable in the wheel well. You'll need to check the manual for which side.

I'll look for the cable in the left front wheel well, or wait for the switch to arrive. I took it to get emissions inspection and it threw several codes. Ah, the joys of 911 ownership! lol! |
