Fuel smell

Hi.
My 2002 996tt developed a fuel smell only with the A/C on in the cabin. A/C off no smell.
I walked around the car sniffing for fuel and can’t detect anything. I pulled the front right fender lining to inspect the evap system.
I could not find any missing or disconnected hoses. I also removed the right rear fender liner and didn’t see anything.
I did notice while washing the engine I notice rat poop and an oily film on/in the rinse water.
Please advice where else I should check next?
