DIY Oil change maintence (computer)

So I just did the oil change on my 997.1 CS. I did not have a maintenance notice or anything. Just wanted to do it.

I have been able to find plenty of guides on how to do the oil change itself but little on the computer side of it.

If I have this wrong please correct me. I was lead to the impression that there are two service reminders. One is the every other year service for the full maintenance package and the other is just for oil.

If thats the case, I would like to reset the oil clock and let the car know that I just changed the oil. Its this part im having trouble figuring out.

Is there a oil only service that I should reset? If so how? I do have the Durametric tool but I don't know where that would be listed.

You don’t say what year? Google the year and oil reset procedure on YouTube. Likely a zillion videos on the subject.

Tony,

thanks for the response. Mine is a 2005. I have been able to find several, but what i find is for resetting the "Service Now" light. Isn't that indicator supposed to indicate to service more than just the oil change? That is referring to the intermediate or full service of the car?

Am I mistaken in the meaning of that indicator? Is the service warning meant to just clock around oil changes?

I thought the car had two separate indicators. One for oil and one for larger service?

Not 100% but I think it is only for resetting oil frequency.

On the 991, I believe Porsche has made the oil change warning impossible to reset without the factory computer hook-up. The dealer makes up the story about having to do a "safety check," "gotta stamp your book for the next owner," etc. but actually you know at $450 for a simple oil change (9qts Mobil 1[$60] + Mahle filter [$10] + 30min labor [$75]), this is a very hideously profitable function for the dealer and an annual opportunity to cross sell you wiper blades, tire & brakes, spark plugs, brake flush.

On a 997, I believe you park the car pointed magnetic north, turn the key on/off three times while simultaneously punching the mileage reset button & click your magic shoes three times. You might get a reset...or not.

You can re-set the oil change warning and you can change the oil interval/maintenance warning also. What you need is the iCarSoft POR II scanner. I just did all the oil service and maintenance then re-set the oil warnings and re-programed the oil service interval & milage for my 2019 Carrera T. Worked great.

The Schwaben Pro Scan Tool for Porsche can do what you're looking for. Among the various features is a "reset oil service light".
