Winter Tires

I just bought a 2011 997.2. It will be my daily driver. How do these cars handle in the snow? I notice snow tires/wheels on sale in Porsche communities, so I suspect snow tires are popular for the 997.

Thanks.

And, it has 19" wheels. My question is not what winter/snow tires to purchase, but whether or not they're necessary.

Thanks.

With most of the weight over the rear wheels 911s do very well in the snow. You could do winter tires or even some of the newer Three Peak all season tires would do very well in winter. Not sure if there are any Three Peak all seasons available for the 997...

If you're driving year round then you'll naturally want something other than summer tires. You may find more options in 18".

Used to be able to get all seasons for my 997.1. Years ago had Conti DWSs. They were a great daily driver tire: comfortable, quiet, reasonable in most weather conditions. (not so great for AX!). Now I can't find any all seasons that fit the stock 19 inch lobster forks. Even the DWSs are no longer available in my sizes (235/35-19 and 295/30-19). Seems to be maybe one or two choices for the fronts, but nothing for the rears.
