Jimmy G fuel problem on 996
2004 C4S car was running good had rattle in left resonator, car sat for 2 weeks, did not try to start, changed both resonators, now car will turn over but not start don't hear fuel pump and fuel gauge does not work...what ties the two together ? shorted pump relay did not respond ....will run on starting fluid so not electric problem...could wire be loose inside fuel tank ?

Does the tach needle bounce when you crank it over?
Could be the fuel pump relay Check the fuses also

tach needle does bounce....will bad pump relay keep fuel gauge from working

Check the leads going to the sending unit at the tank
Could be a bad ground You may want to post the question on the rennlist 996 forum also It has a LOT more traffic and some very knowledgeable people there
