Brake job

Good morning Pelicans,

I did the front brakes on my Wife's 996 last weekend and I started the rear brakes last night. I'm unable to reinstall the brake caliper bolts. The bottom bolts goes in easily but I can't get the threads started on the upper bolt.

The bolts do go in just fine with out the caliper

Any ideas

Thanks

Post pictures of the caliper position as you have it.

There is only one way to mount the calipers if you ever want to bleed the brakes.

Looks like the caliper is not all the way down. Notice the gap between the caliper and hub. Pull the pads out. Push the pistons back in and try again.

The internet is claiming the bolts are one use only. Any idea why?

Because they are torque to yield bolts, meaning they are stretched to get the final clamping force required; and once stretched, they are not reusable.

Stretched or not, your fitment question is not resolved. Have you tried fitting the caliper back on? If you need the carnto drive normally, the bolts are not that fragile that they can’t be used while you obtain new ones.

All depends upon how much you value your hide; we have never reused them, and most dealers keep them, and other similar bolts in stock because the have to be replaced every time.

I removed the pads & hardware, pushed the pads in again and the new bolts went in. What a PITA
