Back in a 911 only 34 years newer :)

Hello all I am happy to be back in a Porsche 911 after a brief 13 year hiatus.
So far this car has been awesome, still has the feel of the older cars in my opinion and yet the tech to make the drive so much more than I can remember in my old 911S.

Anyway I am sure I will be on here asking a million questions and sharing my experiences.

What part of MT? I'm probably far, South Central...(Idaho lol, for those in Los Angeles) but long drives in 911's are worth it.

You just need to take advantage of the occasional cloverleaf on the highway to break up the monotony lol

Congratulations! Car looks fantastic, post some more pictures once you get it. I’m curious to hear your comparison between the new and old car once you’ve had some more seat time.

did my first oil change on the 997.2 and what a joy to work on. The ease of this when compared to the air cooled fiasco I went through with my first 911. Getting the Durametric to work with my laptop was the only challenge, but worked through that eventually.

It sounds really good above 4000 rpm, reminds me of the intake sounds the 3.6 made in my old car. Now to work on the exhaust note.

I’m coming out of a 69 911 with a 2.7 and real short gearing to a 2000 C2 which is all stock. I am not sure it I will do much to it yet. I’ve driven it about 2000 miles since the purchase a few months ago. It is not as visceral and my old one but I have been very impressed with the feedback from the stock suspension. I was expecting it to be a bit insulated but I was very wrong. It still feels light and nimble.

I’d estimate the 2.7 I had was about 190hp and the cars weight was 2280. From a performance the C2 feels much quicker across the board with the only exception in the corners. That may just be my unfamiliarity with the new car. I had the 69 for 18 years and plenty of time to learn.

I’ll be curious to hear your comparison to a 3.6 car.

Thanks for the response...overall I think we can all agree there is just something with the drive and feel of a 911 other vehicles just can't replicate. I have had several modern muscle cars and they have a place, just don't provide the feedback and feel of a 911.

I had a 1975 911S with a 3.6 transplant from a 993, awesome power! This car was an autobahn sleeper, and so very loud. Exhaust was pretty much just a cat with tips out the back, and eventually I added M&K to quiet it down enough that they would allow me on the Nurburgring (under 100db).

The only issue I had with this setup was I neglected the suspension and brakes, tire selection helped with grip but the car was a handful to drive at speed in corners.

I had the opportunity to ride in a GT3 around the ring, that just showed me how a modern 911 can be just amazing and make my 911 feel sub par. Much like a modern muscle car will make a 60's muscle car feel like a lump of steel and rubber.

Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed every vehicle and cherish the fact that I have had the opportunities to drive such a variety of cars and tracks.

Beautiful car! I also made the move though from an 84 Targa to a 2002 C4S. The 84 was a blast - however being in a much more modern 911 has transformed my ability to use it daily. My wife is even happy to ride it, I can talk on the phone, the AC works, and it still growls (though maybe not as much as the 84.)

If I could have multiple cars, I would definitely have the 84 Targa AND a 996 - but with only one I am extremely happy with my choice to go more modern!!

Nice!!!

Does that have the same exhaust setup as the 997.2 GT3’s? If so mine has the center Ti muffler removed with a Sharkwerks center delete and it sounds great.

For a more pleasant exhaust note look into Fister D or Gundo hack . With both you retain the OEM mufflers. Aftermarket mufflers are $$$ but do add noise and generally are lighter in weight . But rarely add any performance. Have fun and good looking car.
